Senegal says “For a Just World, From East to West”

This year’s 12th International Students’ Gathering, which is projected to be held in 91 cities of 51 different countries with the slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West” concluded its Senegal phase.

 

With a slogan of “For a Just World, From East to West”, Federation of International Student Associations (UDEF) concluded its 12th International Students’ Gathering in Senegal.

 

The event which was held in Dakar’s Maarif School was attended by Dursun Sari and Ismaila Sy, delegates from Turkish Maarif Foundation, Erdal Bolatkale, Manager of Dakar Yunus Emre Institute, Momar Diouf, Senegal Turkish Alumni Association, graduates from Turkey and a good number of international students.

 

The program started with the recitation of the Noble Quran. Following the recitation, Vice President of UDEF, Yunus Yildiz presented the inaugural speech. Yildiz in mentioned in his speech that currently some 150 thousand international students from 203 countries are pursuing their higher education Turkey. While briefing about UDEF’s international students oriented activities, he further added that since 1983 around 150 thousand international students graduated from various Turkish Universities.

 

Educational Director of Senegal Turkish Maarif Foundation, Ismaila Sy quoted that Senegalese students on their return, after graduation from Turkey, clearly reflect the Turkish culture. Sy expressed his inclination of high school graduates to continue their university education Turkey, and pointed that this would strengthen the mutual relations further.

 

“I aspire Senegal to advance just the way Turkey did.”

 

President of Senegal Turkish Alumni Association, Momar Diop talked about Turkey’s key advancements and technological developments that he witnessed during his tenure in early 2000s. Diop continued, “Even the buses to the campuses were air conditioned. Metro lines entered universities, making the routes easier for students. Seeing this all made me dream of, “I can do this in my country as well.” After I returned back, I started my own firm and now I am trying my best to bring the change in my country just the way Turkey did.”

 

The program that focused mainly on briefing about UDEF and its international students related activities was concluded with a feast of local delicacies.
